| Do you lead a research , educational, or administrative team? Are you involved in cross-disciplinary collaborations? Would you like to improve your skills in team building and navigating conflict?
This
session offers tools and techniques for enhancing collaboration across
disciplines, sectors, and industries, in order to work more effectively.
Outcomes of the session include learning tools for:
- Creating a culture of learning.
Obstacles and difficulties are ripe with opportunities for innovation,
if we know how to leverage the learning implicit in conflict
- Facilitating complex interactions:
effective leadership on cross-disciplinary teams requires leaders who
are facilitators, and capable of orchestrating complex interactions and
managing conflict
- Finding the lingua franca—bridging
the distance depends on the facility with which collaborators are able
to learn from and understand each others’ perspectives and methodologies
- Knowing your strength—and
that of others. Competition rather than collaboration happens when
there is too little differentiation. Identifying and using the gifts and
talents you bring to the team is essential to success.
| Complex problem solving within and beyond universities requires cross-disciplinary collaboration among scientists, administrators, policy makers, business leaders, engineers, government agencies, and community groups. Yet cross-disciplinary collaboration itself is a complex problem; conceptual distance between disciplines, a lack of common language, differing methodologies, and an attachment to one perspective or framework are just some of the challenges facing cross-disciplinary teams.Cost: $25.00
