LOT Collage

LOT offers something for everyone. We believe it's critical that if you have an interest in developing your leadership potential, that you're given an opportunity to do so. That's why LOT offers many different entry points. They're all different, require different time commitments, approach different topics, but they all converge on one thing: developing YOUR leadership potential in meaningful ways.

Curricular

Take a course. The LOT office offers five academic courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level:

  • APS443 (undergrad) and APS1501 (grad): Leadership and Leading in Groups and Organizations
  • APS442 (undergrad) and APS1010 (grad): Cognitive and Psychological Foundations of Effective Leadership
  • APS1011: Concepts and Applications of Authentic Leadership (open to graduate students)
Enjoy a lecture. Our Leadership Infusion Lecture Series offers all engineering students a chance to learn leadership concepts through their regularly scheduled courses. In place of a regular class period, LOT leadership educators deliver a guest lecture. If you feel your class would benefit from one of our lectures, speak to your instructor!

Co-Curricular

Take a certificate program. LOT currently offers three certificate programs. These are five-week long programs designed to enhance your skills and understanding of different aspects of leadership development. Student must apply here on our website to enroll (check the events calendar for deadlines). Upon successful completion of these programs, you will be awarded a co-curricular certificate that acknowledges your accomplishment. They are:

Certificate One: Team Skills
was offered this fall. Our Team Skills certificate program examines the intricacies of group dynamics and maximizing your leadership efficacy.

Certification Two: Leading from the Inside Out
will be offered in the winter term. This certificate program delves into self-knowledge and understanding as the bedrock of leadership.

Certificate Three: Organizational Leadership will be offered in the winter term. This certificate program is designed for students currently in executive positions  in a student group and would like to enhance their skills to become more effective leaders.

Extra-Curricular

Sit in on a panel discussion. Attend a workshop. Take part in a seminar.

LOT offers numerous events throughout the school year. Bookmark the homepage! It lists upcoming events and other announcements in the Event Calendar. Look out for posters around campus, or check out our bulletin board just outside Wallberg Rm 240. LOT's active on Facebook and Twitter, so you can stay in the loop through social media too! Don't forget to join our mailing list to receive effortlessly updates and announcements from our office.

Department and Division Working Groups

If you're looking for a way to meet new students from your department who, like you, want to practice their leadership skills and orchestrate exciting events, why not join your Department/Division LOT Working Group?

How it works: most Departments and Divisions have an LOT Working Group. These are made up of a group of students, a faculty advisor, and a staff advisor. The students plan and organize leadership-related events with the guidance and support of the Faculty. In the Working Groups, you get as much as you put in!
